term in office. the electoral council auns nnou the narrow victory after a record turnout. chavez was accused of using the oil proceeds in the country to his advantage. we're learning more about what led to the deadly the shooing of a border patrol agent near the mexican border. nicholas ivie died last tuesday in arizona. the head of the border patrol union said it was a case of friendly fire. ivie shot at two armed agents he thought were smugglers. he was killed when those two agents rurpd fire. ivie will be laid to rest today. the names of 80 firefighters who died last year and 5 who died in last past were added to the memorial on the grounds of the national fire academy in

emitsburg, maryland. family and friends came together to honor their loved ones, including the family of mark falkenheim in baltimore county. >> we've seen it from other states for mark's funeral, but to come together as a nation, it's incredible to come together as one family. >> this annual event is a sign of respect for the families. this morning the pharmacy at the center of a deadly meningitis outbreak is voluntarily recalling all of its products. the new england compounding center says the move is just a precaution and says there is no indication any of the products were contaminated. the centers for disease control report 91 cases of fungal meningitis in nine states connected to the massachusetts health facility. seven people have died, including one person in maryland and another person in virginia. they were all treated with contaminated steroids for back pain. in colorado, almost 1,000 people spent the weekend

searching for a missing 10-year-old girl. jessica ridgeway was reported missing on friday after she didn't show up for her school in denver. yesterday searchers found her backpack about six miles from her home. police are hoping someone in the area may have seen her and will come forward with information. tomorrow former penn state assistant coach jerry sandusky will be sentenced. last month a jury convicted him of molesting boys he met through his charity for at risk children. sandusky's lawyer said he made bad decisions, but he is not guilty of the charges. >> jerry has always said he made bad judgment in all the things that got him accused. having showers with kids, obviously he realized that was not the thing to do. but he still maintains his innocence. >> the 68-year-old sandusky could receive life in prison.

iphone fever in this country may be triggering a major labor dispute in china. an overseas labor watchdog says thousands of workers at a plant that builds the new iphone 5 went on strike last night. they were apparently angry apple strengthened inspections of the new smart phone, and they were made they had to work on a national holiday. foxconn technology group denies the report. they said there were two disputes between line workers and quality assurance personnel. oktoberfest wrapped up yesterday in munich, germany. organizers say about 6.4 million people partied at this year's event. that's 500,000 people fewer than last year. this was the 179th annual oktoberfest, which will be followed by november fest, december fest, january fest. >> rumor has it meteorologist veronica johnson went looking

outside. >> the officer confronted the suspect, gave him several verbal commands, and ordered him to drop the knivment the suspect refused to comply with those orders and, in fact, advanced on the officer. the officer, fearing for his life, fired his issued firearm and struck the suspect. >> police say the suspect suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. police are trying to figure out who killed a man and left him on the doorstep of a home in northern virginia. police were called to the 6400 block of broadmoor street in fairfax county early sunday morning. they found the body of 34-year-old mark earl ives outside a home there. he had trauma to his body. and sources tell news 4 the victim appeared to have a wound to his head. >> our earlier investigation, we believe the suspect in this case is actually an acquaintance of our victim. >> police do not believe there is any threat to the community.

this morning a happy ending to the search for murray, a dog missing since an attack last week in northeast. the washington humane society found murray yesterday. on friday murray's owner was jogging with the dog when she was confronted by another jogger. she says the man grabbed murray's leash, but he slipped out of his collar and disappeared. the man then allegedly grabbed her and sexually assaulted her. she screamed for help, and the man ran off. murray has a broken leg, but is expected to be just fine. the coast guard is searching for two maryland men who vanished while boating. the two brothers left ocean city, maryland, heading to chincoteague, virginia. they were expected to arrive saturday night. the wife of one of those men called the coast guard when her husband didn't show up. today controversial ads that support israel will begin appearing in metro stations and on some metro buses. those ads must be in place by

orange line is single tracking between stadium armory and cheverly. aaron? >> thank you, mike. 5:54. breaking news in silver spring. police on the scene of a reported shooting on georgia avenue and the beltway. news 4's megan mcgrath is there. megan, what do we know? >> reporter: it's very early in the investigation. i'll step out of the way so you can see the crime scene. obviously, still very active at this point. what we're getting from police is they received a call about an individual who was making threats, saying that he was going to perhaps hurt himself, perhaps hurt others. they tracked this individual down to the area of his girlfriend's home, and that's where there was some sort of encounter wen this man and police. they believed him to be armed, potentially dangerous. there was some sort of confrontation, and we're told that police opened fire, striking this man. it's our understanding from here on the scene that he was transported to the hospital and he is still alive. really no further detail at this point.
